The pain.
Taking Bear to Art class was like... well... just a hair below torture apparently. The best part? I can't blame him. When the teacher pulled out playdough Bear just kindof looked at me like, really mom? Really? I thought maybe the markers would get his attention- no luck. Markers are pretty lame compared to paint and my toddler knew that.
What he really wanted was to play in the pool. Go down the slide. But I had already paid the recreation center plus the "materials fee" directly to the teacher. Materials fee?
I guess markers, construction paper, crayola plastic aprons, and some glue sticks is quite the expense for four kids, for four weeks, for four hours. Especially for ones you don't get to take home.
While the other kids were coloring nicely mine was throwing markers, screaming, walking around punching kids, and escaping through the door that doesn't lock. At one point I had to sprint down the hall to catch him before he tried to get in the pool. I'm sure you can just imagine it:
"Bear, Bear!! Bear! You can't swim! You have to color!"
"NO, Pool!"
"We can't swim right now, we paid for the class. We can't waste our money. We have to color. Please, please, please sit down and draw on the paper for 3 minutes so I have something to show your dad."
"NO"
I carry him back to class, both of us crying. Really wishing I had picked swim lessons over art class.
I know your not really supposed to quit something you start- you know- the whole finish everything- never be a quitter thing.
But I really could use that money back, so we quit. We are officially art school drop outs.
Wish us luck in our next endeavor- we're going to need it.
Oh no! I'm kind of feeling the same way about MY painting class--except I WANT to like it and just don't really. So did you get the money back? Maybe you can put it towards those swim lessons!
ReplyDeleteThey are supposed to be pro-rating us for the rest of the classes... :) Swim lessons are next on the list- maybe that will go better. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha.. Thanks for sharing that! You are hilarious! I'm sorry it went so badly. Swim lessons sound like a good choice, since he was running toward the pool anyway=) You are great!!
