I found this recipe originally through a Montessori Mom's website and thought it was a great update on a homemade classic. It also makes really cute Valentine's day crafts. Here's the recipe...
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 cup water
1 tbsp oil
2 tsp cream of tartar
3-4 drops essential oil
food coloring
2 tbsp dry herbal leaves
Mix flour, salt, water, oil, and cream of tartar on stove over medium heat. Stir constantly until bubbly and thickened. Take off heat, add essential oil (rose in our case), food coloring (purple or pink) and dried herbal leaves (we used rose buds). Mix and let cool.
It's a great recipe to have the little ones help with- although mine was not interested at all today until I showed him the rolling pin. Great for learning new textures, scents, measuring... taking up a snowy afternoon :)
